It’s a twitter spam Record! I blocked 15 new follows in a row today!

Social media is becoming more and more like an NHL hockey game. Blocking on Facebook, Poking on Twitter, and slashing the opponent of your Mafia Family. I for one have been very vocal about the spam that is going on in these networks, but I know it’s a train that just wont stop. This is a very quick post that will share ONE rule for anyone getting involved in the social media space and that has been sold a bioll of goods by some stupid ad agency thats telling them this is the NEW ADVERTISING.
RULE: The social media space is about relationships, building community and providing value. IT IS NOT AN ADVERTISING SPACE.
The new media channels are ALL opt in! No one needs to see what you are saying. Bring the traditional shout it from the rooftops model and hope everyone hears is GONE!!!!!!!! People can so quickly hit the delete, block or spam button and you’ll be standing in a room all by yourself!
Seriously! Do some research, learn to be interesting, learn how to engage a community, spend some time helping others and dropping your agenda! Thats how this space works!

Nicely said Ryan Stephens! And my hat is off to you Burtis. I too am on a mission to out the spammers!
I share a similar sentiment to Ryan… but also caution that the wolves in sheeps clothing, the chumps posing as social media know it alls are going to result in a lot of closed social media doors and leaving clients with a not so good taste in their mouth about social.
Perhaps you need to do a similar post on how a company should vet, rate or determine if they should hook up with a social firm.
A lot of clients tell me they’ve already heard the social story and they’re interested but not now… that tells me loud and clear that the social story they just heard was rubbish.
I think this may be another golden rule for socail – non?

Ryan, maybe I am wasting my breath. maybe it’s time for early adopters to move on. I don’t really think that but you know what I’m getting at. The signal to noise ratio is getting exceedingly high. That IS something i plan to do something about

While you’re message is SPOT ON, I fear you’re wasting your breath. As far as I’m concerned let the spammers roam free, let the agencies, companies, phony consultants, et al go bonkers spamming everyone. People like me and you will keep doing what we’re doing: providing value, building relationships, and swiping up their clients.
