Blog Walks – What’s the ROI of Your Health?
Today, I have episode #1 of Blog Walks. This is a regular feature that I am planning on doing here on the blog. This project has a few goals:
1. Help get my butt in shape, and hey maybe you’ll join me!
2. Follow through on my goal to get out a video Podcast where I address common questions that I get in the social media community.
3. Create community discussions on topics that will help us all navigate this new emerging landscape for personal, business, and any other motivations that you might have.
Enjoy Episode one, with the disclaimer that this is my first real foray into video editing. It’s no hollywood production, but I hope that you get value from the video and the discussions that will hopefully follow
Please feel free to answer the question in the comment section below. I would love to hear your thoughts. Also, please feel free to suggest further topics for my blog walks. The more I do, the quicker I will reach my health goals!

Dave, I agree fully. I can see how much my productivity has dropped since I went from an active to sedentary job. I told myself I would get in shape with the new gig. It’s time to stop lying to myself and as Nike would say “Just do it!”
Cycling got me through some difficult times , during my dads illnness in 2003 .. both mentally and physically
Listening to Lance Armstrongs audiobook “Its Not about The Bike ” helped immensely
I love walking , its easy and provides great opportunity to see so much in your community
How do I see fitness playing into my daily routines? Fitness is extremely important to my life. Without the endurance and stamina it provides me I would not have the energy and patience to do as much as I actually do. (That I am actually busy too much of the time is a slippery slope I won’t get into here.) It is vitally important to stay fit and do whatever I can to keep physically and emotionally strong in order to 1)get maximum enjoyment out of my days 2) have the physical and emotional strength to handle all the curves that life throws at me because those curves are not going away. And although we can’t forestall the effects of aging on our bodies, staying fit certainly helps.
Fitness is very important in my life and my work. I enjoy competing in triathlons but only for the last 6 years. With 3 children, training after work is not an option (balance is important to me) and I am not a morning person so I started working out over lunch.
While it’s not for everyone, I often “schedule” lunch with myself and go for a run or a swim 3 times per week and cycle on the weekends. Helps keep my thoughts fresh by having an executive workout in the middle of the day. I have found that I am ALOT more creative and get A LOT more work done when I do get a workout in compared to when I don’t. I feel good, work improves and possibly most of all, I am more confident in my person therefore my actions.
Rock on!

Love the video idea, Keith!
To answer the question you pose – I think my fitness affects my career in a huge way.
My job is high stress and has a high workload. I work long hours, and I think my general level of fitness helps me to maintain my productivity through that. Without it, I don’t think I’d be able to handle the pace of work as well as (I think) I currently do.
What’s more, exercise puts me in a good mood! When I don’t exercise enough, I get grouchy. When I’ve had a good workout, I’m happy. That makes me easier to get along with and to work with, and that makes both my life and the lives of those around me a little easier.
