Do you Have Social Media Disease?

Social Media Disease

In this day and age of social media, social networking, twitter, facebook and freindfeed I see a LOT of people feeding their ego like a 16 year old school kid competing for popularity.

If this list sounds like you – You have Social Media Disease!

Number of “Followers” (Stupid term) does not Equal Popularity.

Popularity does not equal Value.

Twitter Rankings are NOT valuable to anyone. It’s an ego driven tool that pulls value from ALL involved.

Approaching people with agenda is spotted immediately.

Perscription

To remedy this horrible disease this is the doctors perscription. Tomorrow, put a site blocker on any twitter ranking sites and stop wasting your time (Stop the bleeding). Instead be on the lookout for someone you can help. (Band-Aid) Approach that someone without an agenda (Healing). Share a skype name, Instant message client, or even your phone number if you feel comfortable. Share your experiences, connect on a deeper level and explore this new space of social media together. (Wound Healed)

Maybe you disagree with me? C’mon – tell me how one on one contact doesn’t scale! Tell me why it’s so important to you to ‘Build Followers’ I welcome the chance to get out my social media scalpel and cut that disease right out of you!

Bravo! Keith, I’ve been following your stand on community a lot lately and I agree entirely that it’s about real, personal connections. I’m also finding it interesting that some of the marketing people who used to push the numbers big time are now moving away from the numbers game too.

Cheers,
Eden

@Eden – Thanks for the comment. You are leader in this space as well and I highly appreciate your comment :)

LOL! This is like looking at blog stats over and over. You just have to STOP THE BLEEDING. I love this, it’s great!

Twitter often feels like a giant high school. :) Thanks for posting this. Good stuff. Im recovering from this disease. But, like they say in any good 12 step program, it’s one day at a time. :)

Admiring the time and effort a person place into your own weblog and detailed information you provide! may search for your own blog and possess my personal kids upward here often. Thumbs upward!

Just desired to say that you’ve some amazing content on your weblog. If it is OK I would like to use some of the information you provided on my web site. If I link back again to your website would it be OK to do so?
