Obama,Facebook, CNN, CC Chapman, Community…how it all ties together!

The Web is changing things. Embrace it or lose!

In this video, my good friend CC Chapman talks about how he was able to watch the inauguration ceremonies take place with his friends on Facebook. I did not watch this way, but I was on the computer working while simultaneously watching the speech on television and glancing at what my friends were saying on Twitter. I think this is interesting in the way multiple media formats are being embraced. No one channel is dominating and eyeballs and attention spans are being fractured. In my opinion, the big media players are going to have to evolve their business models to embrace smaller and more niche communities. Five years ago, independent media producers were chasing after the scraps that traditional media left behind. It seems maybe the tide is turning and big media is on the chase. Maybe Independent and traditional media will collide in the middle somewhere and all become one…who knows?

CNN Embraces the Facebook Community

CNN did a great job today embracing the passionate community online where President Obama did so much of it’s grass roots fundraising. After watching and commenting on this video by CC Chapman of the Advance Guard, I quickly learned that he had been spotted by CNN and asked to do an interview tonight at 6:10 for the media giant! Way to go CC!

I am hoping that CNN will have the interview online and embedable. I will look for it and add it t this post after it’s done.

UPDATE-Here is the interview CC Did!!

Some interesting stats from the Facebook and CNN Inaugural Streaming and integration:

1. 1 Million status updates had been posted through the CNN.com Live Facebook feed.
2. 5,000 status updates every minute.
3. President Obama’s Facebook Fan Page has more than 4 million fans and in excess of 500,000 wall posts.
4. CNN served up 13.9 million live video streams globally since 6am.
5. CNN’s previous best numbers were on Election day at 5.3 Million streams.

NOW THATS EMBRACING COMMUNITY AND PASSION!!!!

Great post Keith. One of your best indeed.

I saw CCs video as well and am not surprised CNN picked it up. What is particularly interesting is the contrast between the magnitude of CNN vs the lone podcaster. CC is way more engaging than CNN and yet getting on CNN is a big deal.

Why? Brand, eyeballs, tradition … but the time will come when the tables will be turned. Web stars like CC, Gary Vayerchuck and others will have a global INTERACTIVE and loyal reach that some big media companies would relish. Then CNN will say “hey, we got on CC!!”

I’m predicting 5-7yrs. Mark my words.
@isfan

Thanks for the comments and the kind words Keith.

I was really impressed with the way everything worked together and the quality was so good. I think that is what got me and I wanted to capture the moment. What I really wanted to do was write a blog post, but I knew I wouldn’t have the time to do it correctly so I grabbed my camera and just raved into it. Faster in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see where this goes from here. This is more then just about the social consumption of media and as much about communications and connections as well. I can’t wait to see where we go from here.

Oh that’s too cool, Keith… here’s another neat connection… the shirt CC is wearing.. is by our client: http://www.bushslastday.com – he also has the http://www.obamasfirstday.com website. It was very exciting to see this both on CC’s video and on CNN!

How long before we see CC Chapman as a regular corespondent on CNN. lol. Now that would be progress.

@Allan – Agreed 100%

@CC – Dude, you are an inspiration to all of us. When you flipped out with excitement was the best part!

@Sadelle – Amazing! Such a big world and a small worlds all at the same time!

@Tim – CC deserves it! Lots of years, time and effort. His excitement is intoxicating.
